James works primarily with keyboard instruments (including piano, organs and synthesizers) and both analogue and digital electronics. His classically trained background informs his technical approach to composing and performing, but he focuses on more experimental forms of sound making, particularly sound collage and electro-acoustics.

At Amant, James will explore acoustic shadows through site-specific experiments. These experiments will include electronics and a specially built Medieval organetto. He hopes to uncover the behavior of acoustic shadows within specific environments and find ways to creatively work with this phenomenon in his music.
