53rd St & 5th Ave Subway Station

Each year, the last Sunday of October marks the final week of manufactured daylight in the United States.

On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Amant’s current exhibition Sentient Earth brings Yuyan Wang’s Look On the Bright Side to the subway mezzanine below 53rd St & 5th Ave in Manhattan. Following a 2018 proposal to send three new moons into orbit above Chinese cities to provide continuous daylight, the 17-minute film gathers a makeshift genealogy of artificial light: a constellation of found footage traversing cavernous underground landscapes, LED factories, and our illuminated urban present.

The film will begin at Emmelines at 6:01pm, sundown, and play continuously seven times, until 8pm.

Yuyan Wang (b. China, based in Paris) is a filmmaker and video artist, and her film Green Grey Black Brown (2024) is currently on view in the group exhibition, Sentient Earth at Amant.
