About

To celebrate the opening of Amant’s fall exhibition Sentient Earth, join us for a roundtable with exhibiting artists Isaiah Davis, Maren Karlson, Clare Koury, and Marina Xenofontos. In this program, the artists will expand on their ongoing research and work engaging the histories and technologies of extraction. From minerals gathered on the Rockaway Peninsula, “where waves and longshore currents act as a sediment conveyor” (Claire Koury), to ancient copper reserves mined in Cyprus (Marina Xenofontos), recycled Pennsylvania steel (Isaiah Davis), and found photographs of dust settling over land in East Germany linked to histories of uranium mining, industrial pollution, and state surveillance (Maren Karlson). The artists will reflect on how their work reimagines centuries-old extractive systems through the failures, transformations, and physicality of the materials they employ. The roundtable will be moderated by Tobi Maier, Chief Curator, and Ariana Kalliga, Curatorial Assistant at Amant.

Doors for the Sentient Earth roundtable will open at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 19 at 306 Maujer St. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Entry is first come, first served.
